Wacky weatherman lawsuit
When injured in an accident that was the result of negligence on the part of another, you may be wondering if you should sue for personal injury. The purpose of personal injury lawsuits are to recover financial compensation for the losses that you suffered due to the accident or negligent action of another, including medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
Unfortunately, in today’s litigious society, the courts are inundated with unusual cases resulting in frivolous lawsuits brought by a lot of sue-happy individuals. One of the more wacky cases involved a woman who sued a TV station over their weatherman’s forecasting.
The woman took the TV station and its weathercaster to small claims court because the weather prediction for the day in question was for a sunny day, but, instead, it turned out to be stormy and rainy.

It’s time to stop the silly lawsuits
The plaintiff argued that, based on the weatherman’s prediction, she was not appropriately dressed for rain, and, as a result, caught the flu, missed four days of work, had to spend $38 on medication, and suffered undo stress as a result.
Kaiser Arbitrations
In the lawsuit, the plaintiff asked for compensation for the sickness and suffering that she had to endure because of the inaccurate forecast, and wanted the weathercaster to apologize because her day was ruined. At least she didn’t include, as part of her claim, that her hair got messed up!
Wacky personal injury suits like this one are sometimes filed by individuals suffering from mental illness, but the majority of these frivolous lawsuits are filed for the purpose of generating media attention or to harass the defendant.

Most courts are overwhelmed with legitimate personal injury lawsuits. Odd lawsuits, such as the one described earlier, put undue strain on the court’s ability to hear and adjudicate serious personal injury cases.
If you or someone you love has been injured due to negligence on the part of another, you may be able to file a personal injury claim against the responsible party in order to gain compensation.
